EverGrain Decking Vs. Other Brands

Evergrain decking is similar to Trex decking in a lot of ways.  One main way is that it is a composite lumber product made of wood and plastic.  It comes in similar sizes, colors, and is just as easy to install and take care of.  However, there are some differences too.

The Differences

Evergrain decking uses a compression molding process that, they claim, gives it a deeper wood grain look and feel.

20 year warranty vs. Trex has 25 years.

Evergrain claims the product performs really well as a dock material.

The Similarities

Straight, uniform pieces – no splintering

Easy to install

More expensive than wood

Long lasting – looks good after many, many years

Good warranty

Resists rot, termites, mold, weathering, dents, scratches

Easy to take care of – no staining and no sealing

Hidden fasteners – or you can use traditional screws

Price – about $3.60 per linear foot

Both Evergrain and Trex have quality railing systems that match the decking.  Both have hidden fasteners.  Both have a variety of great natural colors.  Both are meant to be ordered from a retailer like The Home Depot, or Lowes, however, using a contractor to install the deck for you and therefore order the product is suggested.  Try negotiating the price of the lumber based on the wholesale price that the contractor pays.

Suggestions on how to treat your new deck

Whether you use a composite deck product or regular wood, there are some pre-cautions you should take to keep your new deck looking new and in great shape.

Protect your deck from:

Spills from food, drinks, BBQ grease, automotive and oil products

Metal tools such as a shovel – remove snow with a broom

Dragging deck furniture across your new deck

Harsh cleaners and solvents – test before use!

Evergrain decking looks like a great product and compares very nicely to Trex.  There are many contractors who swear by it and “love it”.  You can find more information about Evergrain decks at
